The Today Show

For those of you who were wondering if Susie was on the show. She wasn't...bummer she had to work when the scientist were out holding signs up, and they wouldn't let her leave. I was very glad I recorded it on my DVR (because I was sleeping through the first part of it) It was really neat and very interesting for me to get to see where and what Susie is doing. I've seen plenty of pictures she has taken down there but, it is just not the same as seeing it on Video. We did get to hear Paul (her BF) say " We should name this ice burg Anne Curry" in his sweet British accent but you don't see him. He was flying Anne Curry around in the helicopter the first day and got that little line in. For those of you who watched the show I'm sure you found it was very educational about how our environment is changing because of the abuse we are doing to our planet. They were in the Arctic Circle also and it has melted a ton in the last decade. They were saying that the Polar Bears are in danger because they use the ice to hunt and travel and it is slowly melting away. They had lots of tips on how to conserve energy to slow down global warming. A couple easy ones were to unplug things that aren't being used, use cold water when you wash clothes, and turn your heater down a degree or two.

Like I said it was really neat for me to see all of this. Susie has gone down there the past several years and loved it. One year she went as a janitor just to get the opportunity to go. I knew it was a really harsh environment but, seeing all that opened my eyes. I can't believe I have a sibling smart enough to be down there and strong enough to endure it once let alone four or five times. I complain about being in the snow for a day or two but these guys have to wear 30 pound of clothing to stay warm. Crazy! Well I'll stop now.. Just thought I'd feel those of you in who were curious about Sue.

Annie,

Thanks so much for spot-lighting me on your blog. It's funny how much attention for the Antarctica having the Today's Show created. It's my sixth season now so I've almost forgotten how weird it is that I live down here half the year.

I noticed that Aleisha put a comment on here. Feel free to give here my hydromaiden@gmail.com address. I think she's great and I'd love to hear from her. Hope all is going well. It's always fun to hear from you.

-Sue
